Midwestern University to Open New Companion Animal Clinic in Downers Grove
State-of-the-art veterinary facility will provide exceptional pet care and hands-on student training

The future Companion Animal Clinic at 3300 Finley Road in Downers Grove plans to provide expert veterinary care for the community and serve as a key training site for Midwestern University’s proposed veterinary program.
Midwestern University is pleased to share plans for its upcoming Companion Animal Clinic in Downers Grove, Illinois. Anticipated to open in the spring of 2027, this new facility will provide affordable, expert veterinary care for dogs, cats, and other domestic pets. Designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community, the clinic will also serve as a foundational component of the University’s proposed College of Veterinary Medicine-Illinois.
The launch of both the College and the Companion Animal Clinic is contingent upon achieving accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE). Pending approval, the first class of veterinary students is expected to begin in August 2027.

Located at 3300 Finley Road, the 152,000-square-foot clinic will occupy the renovated space of the former Fry’s Electronics building. This modern facility will feature cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies and a full suite of veterinary services.
A Vision for Education and Compassionate Care
“Our goal is to create a small animal clinic that provides exceptional pet care while also enriching the education of our veterinary students. We are excited to bring this valuable resource to Downers Grove,” said Coretta Cosby Patterson, D.V.M., DACVIM-SA, Dean of the College.
Midwestern’s veterinary students will benefit from hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of expert faculty, gaining practical skills in real-world settings that prepare them for successful careers in animal healthcare.
The Companion Animal Clinic will offer a full range of services for dogs, cats, and other domestic pets, including:
- Routine wellness exams and preventive care
- Specialty services such as dentistry, surgery, oncology, and orthopedics
- Advanced diagnostic technology and treatment options
Part of a Broader Healthcare Commitment
This new clinic expands Midwestern University’s longstanding commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare to the community while offering meaningful educational experiences for its students.
In addition to the upcoming Companion Animal Clinic, the University’s in Downers Grove already serves patients of all ages with a comprehensive range of services, including dental care, family medicine, speech-language pathology, and physical therapy. These clinics not only meet vital healthcare needs in the region but also serve as dynamic learning environments where students work alongside experienced faculty to deliver patient-centered care. Community members benefit from access to affordable, expert services, while students gain valuable, hands-on training that prepares them to become future healthcare leaders.
As construction progresses, the University will share more details with the public about the clinic’s services, hours of operation, and how to schedule appointments.
